The Eleventh Annual UNIX EXPO in New York -- the largest and most important trade show for corporate buyers and resellers interested in UNIX and Open Systems Computing -- will take place October 4-6, 1994 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. With New York as the international hub for technology decision-makers from the corporate, financial and reseller sectors -- UNIX EXPO is the definitive event for reaching the influential buyers of UNIX and Open Systems. More than 35,000 attendees are expected.

THE INTERNET VILLAGE
Leading Internet solutions providers will display new technology and services at the sold-out Internet Village, which is expanding to meet the demand for exhibit space. More than 24 exhibitors will include: Advanced Network & Services (ANS), Inc., Digital Equipment Corp., NetCom, Performance Systems International (PSI), UUNORTH and UUNET. Hands-on E-mail access to the Internet -- including Internet tools and applications such as Mosaic -- will be available through the E-Mail Village Green. ANS will be the official Internet service provider for UNIX EXPO, and Digital Equipment Corp., will supply the workstations for the E-Mail Village Green.
KEYNOTE ADDRESSES, PLENARY SESSION
Three major presentations -- two keynote speeches and a plenary session -- will set the tone for the innovative, insightful information that will be available to UNIX EXPO attendees.

Keynote Address:
The keynote address slated for Tuesday, October 4, at 1 p.m., will be comprised
of visionary panelists moderated by Tim O'Reilly, President of O'Reilly and Associates.
"The Internet and Its Role in the Business Community" will explore the impact of
the Internet on businesses worldwide.
*Wednesday, October 5, 11 a.m.
Keynote Address:
Lawrence J. Ellison, President & CEO of Oracle Corporation will deliver the UNIX
EXPO keynote address on Wednesday, October 5, at 11:00 a.m. entitled, "Parallel
Software for Information Management." Mr. Ellison is an industry leader who will
share his perspective on the future direction of the Information Superhighway focusing
on the software engines that enable the emerging information libraries to collect,
store, organize and distribute their enormous quantities of multimedia information.
The Oracle executive's appearance at UNIX EXPO underscores the convergence of the
PC, UNIX and mainframe worlds that will assist users in implementing an Open Systems
strategy within the enterprise.
*Thursday, October 6, 11 a.m. Plenary Session:
Important UNIX-critical issues will be debated by two teams of experts in this special
presentation entitled, "The Future of the Enterprise Server: UNIX vs. Windows NT."
The debate will be moderated by David Flack, editor-in-chief, Open Computing.

OPEN SHOWNET NETWORK SYSTEM
A unique show experience -- exclusive to UNIX EXPO. The Open ShowNet System is an Ethernet-based mission-critical network with access points throughout the Javits Center offering exciting applications that will help attendees navigate the show. Attendees can use the Open ShowNet system for a full Internet connection from each of the kiosks.
Some kiosks will also provide the NCSA's Mosaic software interface to travel the Internet. The network provides UNIX EXPO e-mail -- attendees and exhibitors can also send messages to each other during the show -- as well as access online directories, New York City guide and daily news highlights.
UNIX EXPO Software Superstore
For the first time at UNIX EXPO, attendees will have access to a retail software outlet. The Software Superstore, sponsored by UniDirect, will provide attendees with discounts on software from the show's leading exhibitors and manufacturers of UNIX and Open Systems solutions.
Special User Group Meetings
User groups and associations that serve the business needs of professionals working with a diverse array of technologies will hold meetings on Tuesday, October 4, and Wednesday, October 5, starting at 5:30 p.m., each day. Meetings are open to all attendees. (Shuttle bus service will be available after the meetings.)
