TITLE OF ANNOUNCEMENT
AVAILABILITY OF AIX (TM) PS/2 (R) OPERATING SYSTEM AND RELATED
LICENSED PROGRAMS DELAYED

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ANNOUNCEMENT, CHARGES, AND AVAILABILITY
To incorporate additional functions to satisfy AIX customer
requirements and to ensure a quality delivery of AIX products, IBM is
announcing today a delay in general availability of the AIX PS/2
Operating System and related licensed programs to March 31, 1989.
Additional functions incorporated in AIX PS/2, since its announcement
in November 1987, are as follows: the 8570 Personal System/2 (R)
Models 121, A21, and E61 will be supported, thus broadening the AIX
workstation family to PS/2 desktop models as well as the previously
announced floor standing models. The 3812 Pageprinter will be
supported for use by new applications such as technical publishing.
Additionally, 8514 Display support will provide full 1024 x 768
resolution to graphic applications used in conjunction with AIX PS/2
X-Windows (5713-AEX). Support for IBM 6157 Streaming Tape Drive
Model 2 will be provided for greater storage capacity for backup and
restore. The AIX PS/2 DOS Server, previously announced as a separate
licensed program, will be shipped with the AIX PS/2 Operating System
at no additional charge. Mail communication support will be enhanced
by the addition of several standard UNIX (1) and Berkeley Software
Distribution communication programs.
Also, IBM AIX PS/2 X-Windows is compatible with IBM AIX/RT
(TM) X-Windows 2.1 but not with IBM AIX/RT X-Windows 1.1 as
previously announced.
