HOUSTON -- COMPAQ COMPUTER CORP. SAID IT INTRODUCED XENIX SYSTEM V-286, A MULTI-USER, MULTI-TASKING OPERATING SYSTEM ENHANCED BY COMPAQ TO MAXIMIZE THE PERFORMANCE AND FEATURES OF THE COMPAQ DESKPRO 286 AND COMPAQ PORTABLE 286 PERSONAL COMPUTERS.
THE NEW OPERATING SYSTEM IS THE FIRST MULTI-USER SOFTWARE PRODUCT MARKETED BY THE COMPANY FOR USE WITH ITS PERSONAL COMPUTERS AND INCLUDES THREE MODULES: THE BASE OPERATING SYSTEM, WITH A SUGGESTED RESALE PRICE OF $599; THE SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM, WITH A SUGGESTED RESALE PRICE OF $599; AND THE TEXT PROCESSING SYSTEM, WITH A SUGGESTED RESALE PRICE OF $199.
THE SYSTEM IS AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY TO AUTHORIZED COMPAQ DEALERS, COMPAQ SAID.
