Yesterday I had posted to this mailing list a request to make
list items "containers" by adding a </LI> tag to the HTML spec.
I received a fair amount of email that said that I should have
looked into it a little on my own, since it was already in the
standard. I do not want to start a flame war or anything, and
I greatly respect and appreciate the work of Tim Berners-Lee and
Dan Connolly, but the source that I was using:
http://www.w3.org/hypertext/WWW/MarkUp/html-spec/html-spec.ps
which is the Sept. 22 draft of the HTML 2.0 spec doesn't show
a </LI> tag. Section 5.6.1 of the draft shows the use of
list elements and doesn't present the closing </LI> tag. The
only reason that this has come up is that on some browsers,
not using a </LI> tag results in a list being displayed
horizontally instead of vertically. Maybe the spec draft
could be updated to show the use of the closing tag for list
items? Also, maybe the use of the closing tags for list items
and paragraphs could be recommended?
Just some thoughts.
