Confused about color

I am using backgrounds and having a wonderful time. When I started to
change the color of my text to complement the background I was asked to
give a hexidecimal# for the shade I want. Help whaere is the list of
hexidecimal #s I got a nice shade of blue by accident but there must be
an easier way.
