URL-ing through a firewall

Are we trying the impossible? Or did we REALLY see it documented somewhere
that you can link to a an HTML document residing inside a firewall? We have
security clearance to access the files INTERACTIVELY, via a telnet connection,
and that requires ten lines of user names, passwords, and SmartCard numbers.

We are running 2.0 Mosaic for Windows on a PC. We are successfully running
commands through CGI at W3 sites. We would like to be able to do the same
at a non-Web highly(!) secure site. Is there a some sequence of (1) logging
in manually (via telnet), then (2) having Mosaic/HTTP "execute" a URL which
links to that logged-in site? (We've tried about every permutation ourselves.)

Please point us to documentation, undocumented feature(s), down-and-dirty tricks
that WORK, or anything you can offer. We'll be most grateful!
