Proxy cacheing with VMS httpd

We are trying to get proxy cacheing to work with VMS httpd 2.1.6 beta. We are
getting tripped up when VMS trys to create a directory for the host in the
cache and fails because of the multiple "."s. Does anyone have a fix for
this or any other hints for running a proxy on VMS?
