I am currently discussing the technical details of how to do this with
Ari Luotonen at CERN. Currently I have a simple tcp/ip relay for just this
purpose which works with our own browser. We want to be able to switch to
X Mosaic and the CERN WWW Library - to avoid the maintenance hassles of
supporting our own browser.
Our relay program relies on telnet-level authorisation, but will also
check on the client's IP address to avoid the need for supplying a user
name and password for local users. I want to place this program into
the public domain as part of the CERN WWW library package. Browsers that
support Ari's authentication feature will then automatically support the
open subnet relay with out the need for further code changes.
Best wishes,
Dave Raggett,
