The long-anticipated next major release of Alias Manager, a SEF solution
for Mambo, is almost here: the component is now known as Xaneon Extensions for Mambo,
and it runs circles around Alias Manager.
The grunt work in creating SEF URLs for your Mambo site is now performed automagically
by XE2, but you still have all the inherent power that Alias Manager gave you in
fully customizing your URL addresses should you so desire.
A live example of what Xaneon Extensions will allow you to do can be seen at:
http://dev.xaneon.com/
Some additional features implemented in this version are usage of SEF Advance component
extensions, strong 404 Not Found page support, as well as the possibility for running
multiple sites off one Mambo installation (yes, even on different domains, and without
core hacks), with the possibility to override Mambo's frontend language, locale,
title and some misc settings on a site-by-site basis.
Instructions for upgrading to XE2 from Alias Manager 1.0.x are provided at:
http://dev.xaneon.com/mambo/extensions/manual/upgrade.html
Now, while this all seems to work pretty well, it should be noted that this IS the
very FIRST beta version of XE2 and using this for a live site is, as always, quite
at your own risk.
People that need to run large multilingual sites should most definitely hold off
till the next beta, which will integrate XE2 with Mambelfish once Alex Kempkens
releases version 1.5.
Also, the online documentation is still under construction, and the Xaneon Team
definitely don't have the possibility to provide individual support should any problems
arise with the beta. For the beta releases we will ONLY accept bug reports in the
project's MamboForge bug tracker.
XE2 is compatible with Mambo 4.5.1 and 4.5.2.
